ComposerGear.com was created by professional songwriter & composer Dominic Kelly to help fellow composers, producers, and musicians navigate the ever-evolving world of music composition and technology. Our mission is to inform your music gear choices, share real-world experience, inspire with insights from working music professionals, and spotlight music composition tools that truly enhance your creative process.

Dominic is known for his “Gothtronica” music used in Abby’s lab scenes on NCIS for 15 seasons. He also composed many source music songs and instrumental cues for NICS New Orleans and NCIS Hawaii.

Dominic wrote 9 songs for Cheech and Chong, the iconic comedy duo, and co-produced them with Lou Adler, the legendary music producer. He also scored the film, Cheech & Chong’s Animated Movie, produced by the Chambers Brothers & Lou Adler. One of the song’s Dominic wrote for them, “Marijuana (Oh How I Love You)” became a viral sensation on TikTok at one point.

Dominic scored the feature film The Lather Effect starring Eric Stoltz, Ione Skye, Peter Facinelli, Connie Britton & Tate Donovan, written and directed by Sarah Kelly. Dominic co-composed the feature documentary Full Tilt Boogie starring George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino, and Robert Rodriguez, which takes an unprecedented look into the heart of independent film making, also directed by Dominic’s sister and amazing writer/director Sarah Kelly.

Dominic’s vast music compositions and songs have also been featured on many other television shows and films, including Wicked Tuna, Forensic Files, Proof Is Out There, Pawn Stars, The Young and The Restless, Dateline, Botched, Fast & Loud and many others.

Dominic studied jazz music at the Berklee College of Music, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in classical music at Loyola Marymount.

Dominic grew up in Pacific Palisades, CA and currently lives in Los Angeles, CA.
